The hot water sprays out of the top of the tube, transforming into the perforated disc that is known as the shower head. (Or basket in certain machines). The hot water is poured over the coffee ground, picking up the oil's essence as it falls.
The water then flows over the coffee and then through the filter, it flows back into your pot. This is all made possible by the aforementioned oscillating pressure generated by the pump. The expansion and contraction of the bubble boundaries creates an elongation force that separates the coffee particles from water, leaving a strong espresso-like beverage in its wake.
Be aware that your machine is dependent upon many different components. They are all interconnected.
